Oracle VM Installation 3.3.X/3.4.X


Oracle VM Components:

1. OVS Server has stripped linux with hypervisor, OVS Agent, OCFS2,Small Database

     2. OVM Manager (Administer,Command line, WS-API)(Built on Weblogic/Mysql/OVMCLI )

     3. External Storage and network infrastructure(SAN,NFS,ISCSI)

For Production always prefer SSD Drives for OVS Booting

Primary Reason for going on to the Oracle VM/OVS is because of save $$ for various Oracle Products like Oracle Database,Weblogic etc on Licensing Cost .
       1. Oracle Provides OVS for Free.
        2. Support for Oracle VM/OVS is based on Servers and number of Sockets each Server have

For OVS/OVM  3.3.X version UEFI boot is not supported and the bios should be boot in Legacy Mode

Below are the steps that needs to be performed on Lenovo M5 to boot in Legacy Mode(This is for only installing OVS/OVM Versions 3.3.X


  1. Boot into BIOS Setup Press F1 to enter into setup

      

  1. Select BOOT Manager and press enter
      

  1.    3. Select Boot Modes and Press enter


  1. Select Legacy Mode


  1. Save Configuration and select the first boot device as desired and Exit

Below  Process applies to both Installing OVM 3.3.X and 3.4.X

Download the Oracle VM Server and Oracle VM Manager from
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/downloads/index.html

and write the iso of Oracle VM Server(OVS) to dvd/usb or use IMM mounting as virtual drive

                1.Boot from the iso/usb/Virtual DVD Drive and the following Screen Shows Up

   
  1. Press Enter
  2. Select Skip for Media Test
